April Message From SCPRSA Leadership

Are you familiar with the story about the cobbler’s children? You know…the story about how the cobbler’s children had no shoes. Not too different than a public relations group with minimal communications! Communications has often been an afterthought for our chapter. We have assumed that people know the information that they need to know and we have relied on national PRSA to provide us with news and trends. Over the past couple of years, we have realized that we need to take a stronger focus on communications for our chapter, and for this reason, we have made communications a major area of focus for 2012.

I’m proud to report that we are truly making great strides. Here are a few items I would like to highlight:

Facebook - We regularly update with news stories, chapter information and thought provoking public relations issues. Don’t miss out on the conversation…Like us today!

Palmetto Practitioner Blog - Have you checked out our blog lately? Great member perspectives on the issues that face today’s public relations practitioners.

Twitter – Stay up to date with our twitter feeds. Follow us!

• Leadership Updates – I have made it my personal goal as our chapter president to share with you the latest chapter news on a monthly basis.

Special thanks to our communications team for their diligent work to help us improve: Jessica Riley, Karen Potter, Kimberly Juday and Taylor Rains. If you are interested in participating on this committee, please contact Kimberly Juday or Jessica Riley. We’re looking for bloggers and social media gurus!

Over the next couple of months we will be preparing for our first mid-year strategic planning meeting. During this meeting we will be working on our five year strategic plan to ensure continuity in progress towards our goals from year to year. If there are areas that you think should be addressed for our five-year strategic plan, please let me know. We welcome your suggestions regarding how we can improve as a chapter and better serve our membership with professional development and networking opportunities.

Have you purchased your tickets for our 2012 Mercury Awards Carolina Garden Party? If not, click here to reserve a ticket. Here’s a glimpse of what this magical party will hold: Imagine a crisp spring evening, a star filled sky, ladies wearing chic spring southern sundresses, gentlemen in seer sucker, hydrangeas coloring the tables with bright blues and pinks, and like all fabulous southern events, festive cocktails and delish heavy hors d’oeuvres. And of course it goes without saying the focus of the evening will be a celebration of the best and brightest public relations practitioners in South Carolina. The 2012 Garden Party will surely be one for our history books. I can’t wait to see you there!

It’s an honor to serve you and to work with such an amazing group of board and committee members.

Warm Regards,
Alice Grey Harrison, APR
